As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I received an invite to attend the Crossword Book Award 2013 but could not attend this year as I have a very new baby at home :-)

But that does not mean I didn't follow what happened at the awards.

For starters, the event was hosted by the very lovely Suchitra Pillai and featured a brilliant performance by Taufiq Qureshi.

This was the 12th year of the Awards, and also the year that saw the highest number of entries ever received in the history of the Book Award. The entire judging process took over 6 months which included shortlisting the books, before finally proceeding to announce the winner.

So here is a list of the winners in various categories:

Indian Fiction Category:(this year it was jointly won by)
Em and the Big Hoom by Jerry Pinto and Boats on Land by Janice Pariat

Indian Non-Fiction:(this year it was jointly won by)
Righteous Republic by Ananya Vajpeyi and From the Ruins of Empire by Pankaj Mishra

Children's Writing:(this year it was jointly won by)
Wisha Wozzariter by Payal Kapadia and Book Uncle and Me by Uma Krishnaswami

Indian Language Translation Category:
A Life in Words by Ismat Chughtai translated by Dr M Asaduddin

Popular Award:
The Bankster by Ravi Subramanian

So if you haven't read these yet, you can surely go and pick these up now.....And you can also check out the other books in the shortlisted category to give them a read....some really good books out there....

I am looking forward to read some of these, so let me know if you already have read and how you liked them.
