Good Enough Is The New Perfect by Becky Beaupre Gillespie and Hollee Schwartz Temple: Review

I had seen this book in bookstores for quite some time, but the fact that I don't read self-help books was what was keeping me miles away from it. So, when the publishers, Harlequin, asked me if I would be interested to do a review on this one, the answer was obvious. Nonetheless, this wonderful lady assured me that she knew my taste, and this book was anything but your regular 'self-help.' I said okay, let's give it a shot......

And.....

The book she sent me is called Good Enough Is The New Perfect by Becky Beaupre Gillespie and Hollee Schwartz Temple. If you haven't guessed it yet, it's a book that talks mainly to mums, and makes them feel good about themselves, stressing the fact that you don't need to be a superwoman and do everything perfect in order to be, well, perfect. Doing your best and being good enough is also perfect. Good enough, IS, the new perfect.

This Is Not a Book about Setting
So that was the synopsis......

My take on the book:

While this book may sound like a self-help type of book, it's anything but. Of course if you like that particular genre, you should anyways pick it up. But for those of you who are like me and cannot go anywhere near that section of the bookstore, let me tell you this is one book that you should definitely reach out for.

Essentially, this book is about being a woman. It may sound like it is a parenting book, which it probably also is, but most importantly, it is a book about being a woman before anything else, about being you, about finding out what you really need.

As mothers, we drive ourselves up to the wall for anything that is left even a % short of perfect. We will go on endless guilt trips, brooding over 'what if I had done it like this' 'how did I forget that' 'why couldn't I make time for it' and many many more situations that end up making us feel that we have let down our family, let down our work, or let down ourselves.

The truth is, life does not end here. There may be a bad day, there may be 4 bad days in the week, but there are good days too....And focusing and prioritising is what is most important. And that is exactly what this book talks about.

Most mothers today are in a crazy race against time and logic, trying to juggle babies, growing kids, husband, home, work and other things too that make them happy. The result can only be disastrous.

This book carries real accounts and discussions with women who have been just like this, and who have had serious issues while trying to work the 'perfect' way and trying to do everything. It is only when they finally decided to sit down and understand what is really important did they realise they were doing it so wrong all this time.

The good thing about the book is that you don't need to read all of it at one go. You can pick up a page and read it, and it will make perfect sense......

Good Enough is the kind of book you read on a lazy day, lying down, with time in your hands and listening to so many other mums talk about their lives. It's also a book you can read while commuting to work or other places, or during a coffee break in office..

I really enjoyed the book, and finally, the title is something all us moms have been hoping someone would tell us is true!

That said, I have generally stayed away from books from Harlequin, as their website looks really cheesy. But of late, thanks to the wonderful lady who decided to send me books that really match my taste (please, no chic lit and romance and all that self-help!!!) that I realised Harlequin does have some very amazing books that are losing readership purely due to the image that the publishers have created for themselves.

If you haven't heard about it yet, you should definitely read another amazing book from Harlequin called The Dog Who Healed A Family. It has become one of my favourite books ever! READ THE REVIEW HERE

I definitely recommend the book and give it 5 stars...
